Month: April 2011

Once again my day (and my drawing) has gone past midnight so I’m magically rolling back the time to keep it on ‘my’ sleep deprived mind’s day.  My official line is — the day isn’t reeeeaaallllllly over until I go to bed, LOL.  I really need to start getting to bed earlier!!

The Sketchbook Challenge for this month was to push yourself out of your comfort zone and this page is waaay out of mine!  Everything about it was out of my comfort zone, from the style- I normally do “pretty pictures” not journal spilling, to the subject matter- my mother’s death from lung cancer, to the images- a sketch I made in the hospice of her hairless from chemo with her oxygen tubes and sunken into the giant neck brace she wore at the end, even to the materials and methods- stamps, acrylics, paint pens, irredescent paint, collage.  None of this was in my comfort zone.  I thought this type of page was supposed to be cathartic, but I find the finished work diquieting.  A part of me just wants to rip the page into pieces and burn it…

It is after 3 am and I am finally finished and posting my drawing/painting for today.  I’m rolling back the time stamp for the post to just before midnight so it posts on Tuesday, ’cause in my feeble brain Tuesday isn’t really over until I go to bed!!

I made it!  I finished the 75 Day Direct Ink Sketching Challenge, yippee!! If anyone is considering trying this, I highly recommend it.  It’s a long challenge but I learned a lot doing it.

For today, the family told me I should draw a cross.  OK.  I chose one of R3’s necklaces (I just realized that I mislabeled the pic as R4’s not R3’s– I think this is just a tad too girly for R4, LOL!!).  R2 and R3 usually celebrate their birthday together since they are only two days apart.  Today was their combo birthday party and Easter lunch for the extended family to celebrate together.
